A few animal stories

Ferocious Wild Beasts!  by Chris Wormell
Jack, a little boy, is lost in the forest. When a bear asks him what is wrong, he explains there are wild animals in the forest that will eat you all up, even if you are a bear. Now the bear is afraid, too. Soon, there are other fearsome animals, all petrified of the wild animals. Then, they all see a flickering light and hear a wild roar - causing ALL the animals to run away, except Jack, who saw that is was ... "a ferocious wild mom." Jack does tell her he didn't see any ferocious wild beasts.

A Small Brown Dog with a Wet Pink Nose  by Stephanie Stuve-Bodeen

I like this twist on the 'let's get a dog' story. Amelia wants a dog, asks for a dog, but her parents always say, "We're just not ready for a dog." Amelia changes her questions to 'what ifs.' If we had a dog, could we name him Bone? If we had a dog could I walk him? Then Amelia begins to treat this dog as imaginary and in the room. One day, the imaginary dog is missing, and her parents had agreed, that when they had a dog, if is was lost, they would look and look for it. The search ends up at the animal shelter, where Amelia finds the very dog she had always wanted.
